There are devoted fishermen that travel the globe in search of giant Tarpon, and there are those that just want great rod-bending in paradise. Coincidentally, Isla Holbox has both the fly fisherman and conventional fisherman. Recently identified as an ecological zone and blessed with incredibly white sand beaches, this island paradise is as Cancun was 40 years ago - beautiful, quiet and undiscovered. The Magic of Holbox Island isn't restricted to its world-class fishing and endless white sand, attractions also include dining, snorkeling, whale shark dives, bird watching and Mayan Ruins.
Isla Holbox Lodge
At the Holbox Fly Fishing Lodge, guides will put you in front of some of the best bonefish, tarpon and permit that Isla Holbox has to offer. The trip is designed for anglers seaking world class clearwater, warmwater fishing. You'll target big Tarpon, baby Tarpon, Snook, Barracuda, Cobia, Sea Trout and even Permit on occasion. The lodge is also perfect for couples looking a beachfront lodge with fantastic fishing.

April-September is the season for tarpon (trophy Tarpon - July, August). The remainder of the year is good for fishing baby Tarpon, Snook, Cobia, Seat Trout, barracuda and occasionally Permit.

Your trip starts with a private pick up at your Cancun hotel or airport and transfer to the fishing village of Chiquila for your personal boat transfer to the beach in front of the lodge.
The lodge has just been totally renovated. It now holds 10 anglers.
The lodge is beautifully situated on a small, charming island in the Gulf of Mexico. The beachfront location gives it privacy, a gentle breeze and a terrace view that is unforgettable.
The rooms are modern and air conditioned.
Comfortable lounge furniture is available for deck or sand and hammocks allow you to siesta "Island Style" . An outside shower with a Conch Shell spout pours warmish water over sandy feet, or a sandy fishing rod.
Food is always an important part of any vacation and Holbox will not disappoint you. A continental breakfast at the lodge will begin each day and lunch is served on the boats on fishing days. Happy hour includes signature hors d'oeuvres and all other meals are on your own in the local restaurants, five minutes walk from the lodge.
Local restaurants serve superb seafoods including lobster, shrimp and calamari fresh from the Gulf of Mexico. An Italian presence has been on the island for many years resulting in excellent European cuisine that provides the island's continental flare alongside the classic Mexican food.

SAMPLE OUTLINE ITINERARY

Day 1: Cancun Airport or hotel pick up, transfer by private van and boat to the Isla Holbox. Trip briefing. Overnight at lodge.
Day 2-4: After breakfast you and your guide (2 per boat) will depart to fish the shallow mangrove lagoons, the flats, or the clear big Tarpon waters a few miles offshore. Each afternoon, return for a siesta, relax on the beach or an island exploration in a golf cart. End the day with happy hour, an unforgettable sunset and discussions with your guide about the day's fishing and tomorrow's plans. Dinner at one of several exceptional continental and local restaurants. Overnight lodge.
Day 5: On your final day you will arise at a more civilized hour and following breakfast, depart by private boat and van for the mainland and the Cancun Airport.
A valid passport required for U.S. citizens. Passengers assume all responsibility for carrying proper documentation.
Be sure to bring sunscreen. Pepto-Bismol or Immodium may help incidental traveller's diarrhea. Note: health precautions are offered here as an informational service only. See your doctor or health clinic.

Daytime temperatures range from 70-90 degrees during the day, but typically cool down to the 70s in the evening.
